Succession Planning Presentation

Cottage Succession Planning protects what you love.

Your goal is to protect three things: the people you love, a place you love and the life experiences and cottage memories you have.

By having a solid cottage succession plan in place your heirs avoid common estate and real estate surprises.

You are invited to attend a one hour informative, no sales pitch session on succession planning, Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

The date, location (somewhere in Shawano) and venue details will be confirmed and advertised in the spring 2012 edition of The Loon’s Call, on the two Shawano signboards and on this web site.

Geoffrey Parker, Stonehaven Finanacial Group Inc. will be the guest presenter.  Wally Pitt is organizing and will convene this event on behalf of Shawano Ratepayers Inc.

Wally will accept sign ups at any time. Simply e-mail Wally at associates@pitt.ca

Special Waste Pick up Day results (June 11, 2011)

A successful Special Waste Pick up Day was held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Marmora and Lake Sand Storage Yard on North Steenburg Lake Road. The drop off operated from 9:00 a.m. until noon (the bins were actually full by 11:30) and one packer truck, two waste bins and a pick up full of waste was collected.

Our contractor actually had to return for another full bin load later in the day to pick up other waste left at the site.

A second Special Waste Pick up Day will be held at the same location on Saturday, October 1, 2011 .

For the October 1st pick up day please take note of the following.

1.  Waste will be accepted from 9:30 until the bins are full only.

2.  Wood products and wood waste will not be accepted (can be burned with permission of the Fire Chief or otherwise disposed of by the   ratepayer).

3.  No waste is to be left on the site following the special pick up.

4.  Normal landfill tipping fees will apply and be collected.

5.  The service is for Marmora and Lake ratepayers only.

Bears “Love” Garbage

Recently several garbage bins were toppled, some moved a distance and some destroyed along Skeen Road and Jennison Road.  The alleged cultrits are most likely black bears.

As a reminder, and a caution, do not leave garbage for any length of time in any outdoor bin or container.  Racoons are destroying plastic garbage pails this spring, but “the big messes” are most likely cause by bear.

Black bear sightings have been reported in the immediate Shawano area.

WINTER ROCKS !

The annual Dickey Lake Curling Bonspiel is featured in the Winter 2010 Cottage Life magazine.

Vivid full colour pictures and an excellent story take up ten pages.  Bill and Laurie Rothwell have been curling most of their lives, and for the past two decades have hosted a Bonspiel each year in front of their cottage on Dickey Lake.

Many close neighbours and friends have assisted over the years. The 2011 annual Dickey Lake Curling Bonspiel will be held on February 5.

Congratualations Laurie and Bill ! It takes quiet an event to be featured in Cottage Life.
